Basker The positive effects of preventive dentistry and the widespread use of dental implants have changed the pattern of prosthetic treatment dramatically during the last decade. The transition from the natural to arti frequently and comparatively late in life. Many patients are, however, already edentulous or undoubtedly destined to become so. For a great many of these persons, complete dentures are still a realistic treatment option, and frequently the most effective one. Both at present and in the future, as the authors state in their preface to this edition, ‘there is little doubt that patients will become more discerning and will have higher expectations of the arti and skill that the dental profession will be able to meet these increased demands placed on it.
