Mouth Preparations for Removable Partial Denture
INTRODUCTION
One of the greatest challenges facing the dental profession is the provision of the partially edentulous arch with a successful removable partial denture.
To ensure this success, the hard and soft tissues of the particular arch being restored and the associated tissues must be in an acceptable biologic state.
Many methods and sequence of treatment have been suggested for the preparation of the oral cavity in partial denture treatment. Perhaps more emphasis should be directed towards a recognition of the anatomical, physiologic, pathologic and psychologic limitations presented by the patient. Such identification would enable the dentist to determine the essential treatment required for both hard and soft tissues.
A suggested sequence for mouth preparations is as follows:
1. Preparation of the edentulous tissues
2. Natural tooth surface modifications
3. Restorative procedures
